But it has also remained true to its primary mission: addressing the lack of visibility and opportunities for women artists. To that end\, along with judging for quality\, the juries aim to provide opportunities to the emerging artists as well as women of color\, older women\, lesbian and bisexual women\, and immigrant women. \nSince its inception\, the Celebrations of Craftswomen has been a benefit for The Women’s Building\, a multi-cultural community center where women and girls achieve self-sufficiency and pursue their dreams. Funds raised through the raffle\, admission fees\, and booth fees go to the organizations many programs\, including free bilingual Spanish/English information and referral service\, educational support for low-income adults\, financial counseling\, and community events that promote arts\, culture\, and discussion. The Women’s Building also houses ten diverse community groups and have helped launch more than 160 women’s programs and initiatives in San Francisco. The Women’s Building is the first women-owned community center in the U.S.”
