SUMMARY:Oktoberfest in Campbell
DESCRIPTION:Oktoberfest in Campbell \nSaturday-Sunday\, October 18-19\, Saturday 10:00AM-6:00PM\, Sunday\, 10:00AM-5:00PM \nHistoric Downtown Campbell \n(along E Campbell Avenue between Harrison Avenue and Winchester Boulevard\, Campbell) \nFree \nhttp://business.campbellchamber.net/events/details/oktoberfest-1784 \nhttp://www.campbellchamber.net/oktoberfest.html \nhttps://www.downtowncampbell.com \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD3-KLy1_OE \n  \n“This Fall Festival is held every year in downtown Campbell California. The tradition of celebrating the harvest is especially important to this community whose roots are in the agricultural past of the area. Lots of fun music\, art\, dancing\, food\, and great beer are the important attractions that thousands of people enjoy year after year. \n  \nThe original Oktoberfest occurred in Munich\, on October 18\, 1810 to commemorate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen and by 1960\, the Oktoberfest had turned into an enormous world-famous festival which is replicated the world over. \n  \nCampbell’s own Oktoberfest will be held in October and will showcase mouthwatering savory German foods including Bratwurst\, sauerkraut\, pretzels and German potato salad\, a variety of beers and ales\, over 100 fine artisans from all over the country and an impressive line-up of entertainment\, including headliners Alpiners USA. \n  \nOktoberfest is held in Historic Downtown Campbell. \n  \nOktoberfest Origins \nOnce upon a time\, long long ago in a faraway land known as Bavaria\, a Crown Prince – who later became King Ludwig I – married the beautiful Princess Therese von Sachesen-Hildenburghausen. The loyal soldiers in the Prince’s National Guard thought that the horse races would be a most fitting way to celebrate the happy event. King Max\, proud father of the Prince\, gave his consent to the races and so they became the finale of five days of wedding festivities on October 17\, 1810. This was the unlikely beginning of Oktoberfest. \nThe horse races became an annual event and were combined with the state agricultural fair the following year. It wasn’t until 1818\, that booths\, serving food and drink\, were set up at the event. In the late 1800s\, the booths had grown into large beer halls or tents\, which are still set up each year on the Theresienwiese named in honor of Ludwig’s bride.”
