SUMMARY:Shibori Techniques
DESCRIPTION:Shibori Techniques \nwith Jenny Fong \nSaturday\, October 26\, 11:00AM-4:00PM \nHandcraft Studio School\, 5885 Doyle Street\, Emeryville\, 510-332-6101 \n$150\, limit 10 students \nhttp://www.handcraftstudioschool.com/workshops/shibori-technique-1026 \nhttp://reluxia.com \n  \n“Shibori is a centuries old Japanese process of folding and clamping fabric\, then dyeing in indigo to create beautiful patterns. In this dynamic workshop\, you’ll learn several techniques and go home with swatches demonstrating each. We’ll also discuss how to dye with indigo for best results on natural fibers. Since shibori is a great way to repurpose old clothing and linens\, please bring 5 pre-scoured* small pieces (for example: t-shirts\, tote bags\, pillow cases\, etc) to dye. Fabric swatches and all clamping supplies will be provided. \n  \nSince this is a five hour workshop\, you are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch. Light snacks and drinks will be provided \n  \nPlease wear clothes you are comfortable getting dyed. \n  \nJenny Fong grew up in Berkeley with a love for pleating and origami. After attending Parsons and designing apparel in NYC\, she is happy to be relocated back in the Bay Area. She is eager to share her love for shibori and indigo dyeing in this dynamic workshop. \n  \n*To prep your fabric (scouring): \n  \nYou will need: a stainless steel pot that will allow fabrics to move freely in water\, baking soda\, natural dish washing detergent and water. \n  \n\nFor each gallon of water in your pot\, add anywhere between 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda and 1-2 teaspoons of detergent. Again\, that’s per gallon of water\, not per pot.\nAdd the fabric and turn on the heat. Bring the water to a simmer and keep it there for a minimum of two hours. Four hours would be better if you can swing it. Stir the fabric occasionally with a long wooden spoon to make sure it launders evenly. The water will turn this ghastly yellow brown color.\nRinse the fabric very thoroughly in cold water.\nFrom this point you can go straight on to the dyeing process with the fabric wet\, or you can dry it and store it.”

SUMMARY:Oktoberfest in Campbell
DESCRIPTION:Oktoberfest in Campbell \nSaturday-Sunday\, October 18-19\, Saturday 10:00AM-6:00PM\, Sunday\, 10:00AM-5:00PM \nHistoric Downtown Campbell \n(along E Campbell Avenue between Harrison Avenue and Winchester Boulevard\, Campbell) \nFree \nhttp://business.campbellchamber.net/events/details/oktoberfest-1784 \nhttp://www.campbellchamber.net/oktoberfest.html \nhttps://www.downtowncampbell.com \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD3-KLy1_OE \n  \n“This Fall Festival is held every year in downtown Campbell California. The tradition of celebrating the harvest is especially important to this community whose roots are in the agricultural past of the area. Lots of fun music\, art\, dancing\, food\, and great beer are the important attractions that thousands of people enjoy year after year. \n  \nThe original Oktoberfest occurred in Munich\, on October 18\, 1810 to commemorate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen and by 1960\, the Oktoberfest had turned into an enormous world-famous festival which is replicated the world over. \n  \nCampbell’s own Oktoberfest will be held in October and will showcase mouthwatering savory German foods including Bratwurst\, sauerkraut\, pretzels and German potato salad\, a variety of beers and ales\, over 100 fine artisans from all over the country and an impressive line-up of entertainment\, including headliners Alpiners USA. \n  \nOktoberfest is held in Historic Downtown Campbell. \n  \nOktoberfest Origins \nOnce upon a time\, long long ago in a faraway land known as Bavaria\, a Crown Prince – who later became King Ludwig I – married the beautiful Princess Therese von Sachesen-Hildenburghausen. The loyal soldiers in the Prince’s National Guard thought that the horse races would be a most fitting way to celebrate the happy event. King Max\, proud father of the Prince\, gave his consent to the races and so they became the finale of five days of wedding festivities on October 17\, 1810. This was the unlikely beginning of Oktoberfest. \nThe horse races became an annual event and were combined with the state agricultural fair the following year. It wasn’t until 1818\, that booths\, serving food and drink\, were set up at the event. In the late 1800s\, the booths had grown into large beer halls or tents\, which are still set up each year on the Theresienwiese named in honor of Ludwig’s bride.”
