The treasure is in a cavern\, but the entrance to the cavern is under the house of evil thief Mama Fratelli and her sons Jake Fratelli\, Francis Fratelli\, and the severely disfigured Lotney “Sloth” Fratelli. Sloth befriends the Goonies and decides to help them. \n  \nThe New Parkway Theater is a community-centered cinema and pub located in Oakland’s Uptown district. Sit back and relax in our cozy couches while watching our new releases\, cult classics\, and fabulous special programming. Plus\, enjoy yummy food and local beer and wine in our café or even delivered right to your theater seat all at affordable prices! \nEvery week we have something for everyone… from Doc Night to Baby Brigade and Thrillville Theater to Nerd Night\, and everything in between. Also\, join us on the mezzanine for free\, non-film events like Trivia Thursdays\, Pop-Up Art Wednesdays\, and First Fridays. \nThe New Parkway = Film. Friends. Food. Fun on Tap.

SUMMARY:The Gleaners and I
DESCRIPTION:The Gleaners and I \nMovie Night at SHED Grange \nWednesday\, January 14\, 6:00-8:30PM \nSHED Grange\, 25 North Street\, Healdsburg \nFree\, donations accepted \nhttp://healdsburgshed.com/events/movie-night-gleaners \nhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gleaners_and_I \nhttp://farmtopantry.org \n  \nGleaning is the act of collecting “seconds\,” or surplus crops for the hungry\, and has been a component of farming communities since agriculture began. Some ancient cultures even promoted gleaning as an early form of a welfare system. \nThe Gleaners and I is an award-winning documentary from the the idiosyncratic French filmmaker Agnes Varda\, and it takes its title from the iconic 1867 painting by Jean-Francois Millet that shows three women stooping in a wheat field to pick up sheaves and kernels left behind after the harvest. The film explores gleaning as not only an expression of community but a way to reduce waste and bring fresh produce to those who need it. \nHealdsburg has its own active gleaning community\, and on this after-hours movie night we’ll learn about the non-profit organization Farm to Pantry from its founder\, Melita Love. Come at 6:00PM to meet the gleaners and have a glass of wine\, beer\, or house kombucha and some movie snacks. \nAt 6:30PM we’ll introduce Melita and start the show. Admission is by donation. All proceeds will go to support Farm to Pantry. \n  \nFarm to Pantry was founded in 2008 as a volunteer organization with the belief that healthy food nurtures a healthy community. They are committed to developing and supporting local projects that provide healthy food to everyone\, especially those in the community who are hungry or have limited access to nutritious produce. Farm to Pantry is grateful for the support of all the gleaning volunteers\, property owners\, and donors in our community who have given generously of their time and resources to help them surpass 164\,00 pounds of gleaned produce.

SUMMARY:The Wiz
DESCRIPTION:The Wiz \nThursday\, December 11\, 7:00PM \nThe Cerrito Theater\, 10070 San Pablo Avenue\, El Cerrito \n$8 \nhttp://www.rialtocinemas.com/index.php?location=cerrito&film=2014_wiz \nhttp://cerritotheater.org/2014/11/29/the-wiz-1979-at-the-cerrito-thursday-december-11-at-7-p-m \n  \n“See a whole new Oz\, with Diana Ross\, Michael Jackson\, and Richard Pryor! \nYou’ve been to Oz before\, but never like this. Come see a fantastic\, re-imagined musical that sees Dorothy\, played by Diana Ross\, transported by a snowstorm into a land that is entirely new to her. \nShe and her little dog find themselves in a phantasmagorical version of Manhattan. They make new friends: a scarecrow from a junkyard\, played by Michael Jackson. Also a broken-down tinman from a decaying amusement park\, played by Nipsey Russell. And the third new friend is a cowardly lion (Ted Ross) who has been pretending to be a statue. \nThe four of them have many amazing adventures and close calls with the Wicked Witch of the West\, as they go off in search of the Wiz – Richard Pryor – who can grant their wishes. \nThe Wiz was a huge hit on Broadway\, and then was made into this delightful film\, directed by Sidney Lumet. \nThe Wiz plays once only on Thursday\, December 11\, at 7:00PM. All seats are $8. Moviegoers are advised to get advance tickets at the box office or online\, as shows may sell out. Arriving early is a good idea\, in order to choose your seat and also order delicious food and wine or beer. \n  \nScene \nOnce you visit Scene\, you’ll want to come again and again. It’s the atmospheric wine/food bar on the right side of the lobby – a great place to enjoy a special menu\, such as panini\, snacks\, and salads – or have them brought to your seat while you enjoy the movie!”

The story follows Satsuke and Mei\, two young girls who find that their new country home is in a mystical forest inhabited by a menagerie of mystical creatures called Totoros. They befriend O Totoro\, the biggest and eldest Totoro\, who is also the king of the forest. As their girls’ mother lies sick in the hospital\, O Totoro brings the sisters on a magical adventure but also helps them to understand the realities of life. Like most films released by Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli\, this family-oriented feature has a powerful ecological theme. (movie played in English) \nThis event will support the Francophone Charter School of Oakland\, a TK to 3rd grade public charter school with a French language immersion program opening in the fall of 2015.”

SUMMARY:The Power Of Singing: Polyphonia - Albania’s Forgotten Voices
DESCRIPTION:The Power Of Singing: Polyphonia – Albania’s Forgotten Voices \nfilm screening \nSunday\, November 16\, 1:00-3:00PM \nSilk Road House\, 1944 University Avenue\, Berkeley\, 510-981-0700 \nhttp://www.silkroadhouse.org \nhttp://www.academia.edu/1033704/Documentary_Polyphonia_-_Albanias_forgotten_voices \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Xcuh95Lnk8 \n  \n“Two shepherds in the Albanian mountains\, Arif\, a Muslim\, and Anastas\, an orthodox Christian\, have been friends for years in spite of religious barriers. Their profound friendship is constantly strengthened by the local music-making\, a unique choral polyphony. In 2005\, UNESCO proclaimed this vocal tradition a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. \nThe film sets up unforgettable images for severe poetry\, harsh fates and almost magical power of human voice\, which helps people in the mountains to master their surreal daily routine at a contradictory stage of post-socialist change. On another level\, the film gives an example of how music – even in the Balkans’ complexity – can build bridges between people and religions. \nA documentary film by Eckehard Pistrick and Bjorn Reinhardt. Eckehard Pistrick (b. 1980) is a German ethnomusicologist currently working in Halle and Paris. He conducted fieldworks in Cambodia\, Bali\, Greece and Albania and is the co-editor of Audiovisual Media and Identity Issues in Southeastern Europe\, Cambridge Scholars Publishers\, 2011. Bjorn Reinhardt (b. 1963 in Germany) worked as a stage designer and documentarian before immigrating to Romania in 2002. For the last 10 years he has been making internationally appraised documentaries mainly in the Maramureș region\, which is situated on the northeastern Carpathians\, but also in Crete\, Northern Greece\, Albania\, and elsewhere. Since 2007 he has also been working as a photographer. \nRunning time: 85 minutes. In Albanian with English subtitles. \nSilk Road House events are sponsored by the Silkroad Foundation.”

We provide opportunities for transgender and gender variant media artists\, build community through our film and performance events\, and engage our audiences in cross-community dialogue. \n  \nFounded in 1997 and originally named Tranny Fest\, SFTFF was North America’s first transgender film festival. We organized our first festival for the same reason so many other marginalized communities have organized film festivals: the absence of authentic representations of our lives and experiences in the mainstream commercial media. Originally a biennial event\, SFTFF screened films and videos by transgender and gender variant media artists whose work challenged stereotypes. We primarily served filmmakers with extremely limited access to venues. After five biennual festivals\, overwhelming audience demand led our organizers to begin staging the Festival as an annual event in 1997. \nJoin us for three days and nights of award-winning transgender cinema\, dynamic programs of local\, national and international films by transgender and gender variant artists from around the world.”
