SUMMARY:Ya Elah in Concert at St Bede's Art Series
DESCRIPTION:Ya Elah (Women’s Music Ensemble) was cordially invited to be part of the Art Series at St Bede’s Episcopal Church. Ya Elah graciously accepted and will be performing. Ya Elah emerged from a longing to illuminate the beauty\, mystery and power of the world’s many spiritual paths. “The sound of Ya Elah is like honey in your ears: they will awaken you. Your toes will tap\, your head will sway and your soul will sing\,” according to Jueli Garfinkle\, author of “Everyday Adventures for the Soul.” \nEqual parts musical fireworks\, healing ritual\, and rollicking good time\, Ya Elah sparkles with the influence of Bulgarian village songs\, Middle Eastern rhythms\, and more from the world’s various musical traditions. Their music combines the sacred texts and liturgies of many traditions to reveal the deep knowing that all life is one. Ya Elah aspires to inspire compassion among diverse cultures and hopes to help bring healing and a sense of wonder at the ways all have connected to the Divine. \nYa Elah is based in the Bay Area with Bon Singer (director)\, Diana Rowan (harp\, percussion)\, Erica Hockett (voice)\, Evelie S. Posch (voice\, guitar\, percussion)\, Jeannette Ferber (voice).

SUMMARY:Il Tabarro and Signor Bruschino: Love\, a Tragedy\, and a Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Il Tabarro and Signor Bruschino: Lova\, a Tragedy\, and a Comedy \npresented by Island City Opera \nfinal rehearsal Wednesday\, March 4\, 7:30PM\, \nFridays\, March 6 and 13 at 7:30PM\, \nSundays\, March 8 and 15 at 2:00PM \nAlameda Elks Lodge\, 2255 Santa Clara Ave\, Alameda\, 510-522-1015 \nWednesday $15\, Fridays and Sundays $35 \nhttp://www.islandcityopera.org/tabarrobruschino \nhttps://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=45350 \nhttp://www.alamedaelks1015.org \n  \nIl Tabarro (The Cloak) by Giacomo Puccini \n  \nPuccini’s taut melodrama set in working-class Paris is a tale of infidelity and murder set on the banks of the Seine. Giorgetta\, the wife of Michele\, a Parisian barge owner\, has fallen in love with Luigi\, one of her husband’s stevedores.  Michele’s growing suspicion and jealousy lead him to violent action. As the story unfolds\, Michele watches the stevedores finish their work for the day. As they walk past the barge\, Giorgetta has a private conversation with Luigi\, her lover. Giorgetta plans a secret meeting for late that night. Michele watches\, but says nothing. \nLater that evening\, Luigi mistakes the light from Michele’s pipe as a sign from Giorgetta. As Luigi boards the barge\, he encounters Michele. When Giorgetta eventually reaches the barge\, who does she find motionless under the cloak? \n  \nSignor Bruschino (The Accidental Son) by Gioachino Rossini \n  \nRossini’s comic romp of a love story is updated to modern day California. Meet Mr. Bruschino Sr.: a successful if somewhat shady businessman.  He’s come to see his old friend Gaudenzio. Gaudenzio\, a once ambitious politician\, (and one-time Berkeley Mayoral candidate?) he now lives a rather dazed ‘alternative lifestyle‘.  He’s also guardian to the lovely young Sofia. Bruschino Sr. and Gaudenzio arrange for Sofia to marry Bruschino Jr; a coupling advantageous for their latest business scheme. Well\,  Bruschino Jr is a party boy down to the bone and only interested in diversion 24/7.  Sofia finds him a bore.  She’s fallen head over heels for Florville. Sofia and Florville hatch a hare-brained scheme to get Guadenzio’s permission to let them marry by passing off Florville as Bruschino Jr! SUMMARY:Il Tabarro and Signor Bruschino: Love\, a Tragedy\, and a Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Il Tabarro and Signor Bruschino: Love\, a Tragedy\, and a Comedy \npresented by Island City Opera \nfinal rehearsal Wednesday\, March 4\, 7:30PM\, \nFridays\, March 6 and 13 at 7:30PM\, \nSundays\, March 8 and 15 at 2:00PM \nAlameda Elks Lodge\, 2255 Santa Clara Ave\, Alameda\, 510-522-1015 \nWednesday $15\, Fridays and Sundays $35 \nhttp://www.islandcityopera.org/tabarrobruschino \nhttps://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=45350 \nhttp://www.alamedaelks1015.org \n  \nIl Tabarro (The Cloak) by Giacomo Puccini \n  \nPuccini’s taut melodrama set in working-class Paris is a tale of infidelity and murder set on the banks of the Seine. Kelley \nMusical Composer Tommy Shepherd \nDirected by Rhodessa Jones \n  \nEmerging Chicago playwright Nambi E. Kelley’s contemporary urban adaptation of Sophocles’ tragedy Antigone is an impassioned response to the recent untimely deaths of children in her native city as a result of gang violence\, which has risen sharply in the past several years. The production updates the conventions of ancient drama for our contemporary movement. \nEnsemble singing\, rhythmic movement\, and musical accompaniment was an essential part of Greek tragedy’s original performance in ancient Athens; similarly\, music will provide an urgent musical heartbeat to this stirring depiction of the immense human cost of violence in our cities and in our families.”
