Volunteers from around the world defend buffalo on their traditional winter habitat and advocate for their protection. Our daily patrols stand with the buffalo on the ground they choose to be on\, and document every move made against them. \n  \nVolunteers spend all day\, from sunrise until sunset\, watching and documenting actions taken against the buffalo. We run patrols from cars\, skis and snowshoes to protect buffalo outside the park. Tactics range from video documentation to nonviolent civil disobedience. \n  \nBFC enjoys incredible support and participation from the local community. Residents allow us to post signs on their property designating them as Buffalo Safe Zones. We offer a fence repair service to mitigate damage caused by wildlife. Locals join us on our daily rounds\, and many support our patrols with hot drinks and food. \n  \nAll of our work happens because people are willing to take a break from their usual schedules and come help. Over 3000 people from all over the country and around the world have joined us in our log cabin on Hebgen Lake to help stop the buffalo slaughter. We feed and house all our volunteers in our cabin and Gardner satellite camp. Volunteers patrol for buffalo by skis\, snowshoes\, or cars. Everyone communicates by a network of hand-held radios\, and also carries a video camera. \n  \nOur office runs outreach programs\, including slide and video presentations\, summer tabling in Yellowstone Park\, website and e-mail updates\, and national media coverage through press releases and video.”

Main Street\, Sebastopol\, 707-829-8871 \nFree \nhttp://www.manyriversbooks.com/t09_4.html \nhttp://www.artofcmty.com/linda-sartor \n  \n“Following 9/11/2001\, I was called by a relentless internal voice to put my mind\, heart\, and body on the line because I could not abide what my country was doing in my name with my taxes.  I discovered and decided to join the International Solidarity Movement in Palestine.  I will discuss my experiences in seven war-torn countries where I traveled in the role of peacekeeper and citizen diplomat.  I will comment on the political situation in the Middle East and US involvement and responsibility\, as well as personal stories about the people I met in those places.  My purpose is to inspire citizens to follow the call of their hearts in order to affect social change even when they are afraid.  It is a story of the development of my personal sense of empowerment in the face of violent forces that had always appeared beyond my reach. \nLinda Sartor joined the International Solidarity Movement in Israel/Palestine in June of 2002; she joined Iraq Peace Teams in February 2003; went to Sri Lanka with the Nonviolent Peaceforce 2003-2008; did a Global Exchange citizen diplomacy trip to Iran in October 2008\, took her first trip to Afghanistan with Voices for Creative Nonviolence in March/April 2011; and was deported from Bahrain in February 2012.  Linda lives in an intentional community in Sonoma County\, teaches research courses in graduate school\, and guides wilderness trips with a non-profit organization called Rites of Passage.”
