There is no dress code for the ball (We certainly don’t expect Spike to attend in black tie!)\, but you will see some of the most gorgeous and creative costumes of the social season at Le Bal des Vampires. \n  \nThis year there will once again be simultaneous dancing on two separate floors: \n  \nOur band in the elegant upstairs ballroom is the stylish but always dashing chamber ensemble Bangers and Mash. As usual\, haunting waltzes dominate the program\, but the evening will feature a variety of dance music from across the centuries – from 18th century Baroque contredanses to 19th century Victorian rotary and Viennese waltzes\, polkas\, and mazurkas; to elegant early 20th century tangos\, blues\, and fox trots and even some classic rock and roll Swing. Please note that the band’s first dance set will start at 7:45PM sharp – 15 minutes earlier than usual. The dance sets will be unusually long\, even by Bangers and Mash’s high standards\, so if you do plan to dance\, please be certain to wear shoes or boots you can actually dance in. \n  \nFor those preferring a more modern style of dance music and free-style dancing as well as partner dancing\, join us downstairs at the Nightfall Club (located in the hall’s atmospheric Ratskeller) for a wonderfully varied repertoire of dark music to stir the blood and spirit from 6:30PM to Midnight. Hosted by our remarkable DJs\, Dark Moon and Persephone\, Nightfall also features a no-host (cash) bar and light refreshments for our mortal guests. Since only snacks are provided at the ball\, we strongly suggest dining before the ball. For those interested in dining out\, there are a variety of restaurants within easy walking distance of the Lodge\, especially on nearby Park Street. \n  \nOur half-time show in the ballroom is a performance by the celebrated Theater of the Vampires. Qadim’s most recent CD\, Eastern Wind\, received rave reviews worldwide\, reaching #7 on Billboard’s World Music charts. Abdelhadi also sings in French and Arabic. \n  \nUnder the direction of master dancer Miriam Peretz\, Nava Dance Collective is a group of dancers devoted to cross-cultural dialogue and artistic collaboration through traditional\, sacred\, and ethno-contemporary dance forms. Tonight they offer the premiere of new works from the Bustan Project. The dancers are immersed in the unique movement language developed by Peretz\, a style that draws mainly on dances from the Silk Road\, but is also heavily infused with contemporary aesthetics and devotional themes. The group’s name is symbolic of its mission. Nava is a word shared by the Hebrew\, Farsi\, and Turkish languages. In Farsi and Turkish\, Nava means sound or tune. It is also the name of one the main Dastgah (musical modes) in the Persian and Turkish Classical music traditions. In the Hebrew language\, Nava means pleasant\, graceful\, beautiful and is a common girls’ name. Lately she has been recognized as an emerging choreographer in the Bay Area. Internationally\, she had the honor of performing at the Nehru Centre in London in 2010 and opening the Festival of the Arts for Non-violence and Tolerance 2011 at the prestigious Darpana Theater in Ahmedabad.”

We share our aesthetic movements along with the sacred stories and teachings of our respective cultures and traditions. We cross-pollinate wisdom and find the common threads of our human condition. The loyal soldiers in the Prince’s National Guard thought that the horse races would be a most fitting way to celebrate the happy event. King Max\, proud father of the Prince\, gave his consent to the races and so they became the finale of five days of wedding festivities on October 17\, 1810. This was the unlikely beginning of Oktoberfest. \nThe horse races became an annual event and were combined with the state agricultural fair the following year. It wasn’t until 1818\, that booths\, serving food and drink\, were set up at the event. In the late 1800s\, the booths had grown into large beer halls or tents\, which are still set up each year on the Theresienwiese named in honor of Ludwig’s bride.”
