SUMMARY:Master Mask Artisan Sergio Boldrin at Castle in the Air
DESCRIPTION:Master Mask Artisan Sergio Boldrin at Castle in the Air \nTuesday\, October 28\, 5:30-7:30PM \nCastle in the Air\, 1805 Fourth Street\, Berkeley\, 510-204-9801 \nFree \nhttp://blog.castleintheair.biz/2014/10/mask-master-sergio-boldrin-at-castle-in.html \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb5IEaCgF7M \n  \n“If you’ve visited Castle in the Air recently\, you’ve no doubt noticed the fanciful\, over-the- top masks that are part of our transformation into a Venetian wonderland. The masks are the creations of Sergio Boldrin\, and they are at once whimsical and striking. \nSergio’s creations have been praised worldwide\, from his hometown of Venice to features in National Geographic and the New York Times. Their most famous appearance was in the secret society scenes in Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. \nI had the chance to meet Sergio in his Venice shop earlier this year. It was almost hard to pick him out – there were faces everywhere. \nHe very graciously showed me how he makes his masks\, step-by-step in the traditional manner. Would you like a peek into his workshop as well? Take a look at the video\, which shows Sergio and his team creating a mask\, from an original clay sculpture to the finished\, brightly painted piece perfect for wearing to Carnival or any masked ball. \nCome meet Sergio and hear him speak about his life as a traditional artisan at Castle in the Air on Tuesday\, October 28. The event is free and will feature refreshments and live entertainment. Masquerade costumes encouraged!”

Imagine if menstrual education led with empowerment\, ritual\, and joy. \n  \nShifting the conversation around menstruation can ensure young people have greater agency to make decisions about what is best for their health\, their bodies\, and the earth they inhabit. \n  \nThis is the fourth lunchtime discussion hosted by Natural Flow. SUMMARY:Shamanizing For The Culture
DESCRIPTION:Shamanizing For The Culture \nwith Meredith Sabini \nFriday\, October 17\,  2:00-5:00PM \nThe Dream Institute of Northern California\, 1672 University Avenue\, Berkeley\, 510-845-1767 \n$45\, please RSVP \nhttp://dream-institute.org/calendar-of-events/#shamanizing \n  \n“Shamanism is a cultural practice present throughout history that draws on dreams and visions. This program begins with an account of the sophisticated dream practices of the Iroquois and the Achuar of Equador\, which have both been compared with modern psychotherapy. Indigenous societies also may have had culture shamans who received guidance for their people as a whole. This will be illustrated by contemporary examples of Oglala Sioux Black Elk and C. G. Jung\, each of whom had sweeping visionary dreams about impending large-scale disasters; and the examples of Harriet Tubman and Taoist rainmaker Kiao-chou\, who enacted effective rituals for societies in distress. Activated at times of social upheaval\, the shamanic archetype may also bring dreams and visions to those not functioning as healers. Examples of ‘big dreams’ from people today will be presented for discussion and guidelines for distinguishing big or collective dreams from ordinary personal ones will be given. \nInstructor: Meredith Sabini\, PhD\, psychologist and founder-director of The Dream Institute\, has a longstanding interest in cross-cultural healing modalities.”

SUMMARY:Opening New Dimensions for Tarot Readers and Healers
DESCRIPTION:Opening New Dimensions for Tarot Readers and Healers \nwith Miriam Jacobs \nSaturday\, October 11\, 4:00-5:00PM \nThe Sacred Well\, 536 Grand Avenue\, 510-444-9355 \n$35 \nhttp://www.sacredwell.com/classes-events \nhttp://polaritywellness.com/event/%EF%BB%BFopening-new-dimensions-healers-tarot-card-readers \n  \n“Tarot and the Chakras – There is a connection! \nAncient Vedic and Tibetan systems gave elemental names to the seven bodily energy centers known as chakras. The Tarot suits\, commonly know as the Minor Arcana cards\, have the same elemental attributions. Connecting Tarot to the Chakra system can guide us to choose meditations\, home remedies and yoga like exercises to integrate lessons from the cards. \nCome explore the possibilities by learning about this fascinating connection. \nLearn how to integrate Tarot into your healing arts practices. \nBooks and decks will be available for signing. \nNon-practitioners are welcome. \nThrough bodywork sessions and tarot card readings\, Miriam Jacobs teaches how to live more comfortably and self-expressively in the world. Her work brings about a profoundly deep healing. Miriam uniquely synthesizes ancient and modern methods of healing and grounds them in the body. She is the creator of Polarity Wellness Tarot\, the first body based deck. Her new book Tarot and the Chakras: Opening New Dimensions to Healers\, takes the concept of the deck even further. \nMiriam’s bodywork may include polarity\, cranial sacral\, reflexology and massage. Her tarot readings help you make choices and affirm what you already know. She is also available for workshops\, Tarot parties and in person/phone/skype readings.”

Some members are professionally trained in astronomy\, others are just starting and have never looked through a telescope before. One thing that we all have in common is an interest in the sky. \n  \nThe PAS holds meetings on the second Friday of each month at 7:30PM on the campus of Foothill College in Los Altos Hills\, CA (between San Jose and Palo Alto).  The meetings are usually held in Room 5015\, next to Parking Lot 5 (see map). Each meeting features a speaker (or speakers) bringing us up to date on different topics in astronomy. The public is welcome to attend these meetings; there is no charge to attend.  Note\, however\, that there is a $3 charge for parking – visitor parking permits are available from the machines in the parking lots.  Dispensers accept one-dollar bills and quarters; bring exact change. Please do not park in spaces marked Staff – you will be ticketed! \n  \nAs part of its commitment to bringing astronomy to the public\, the Peninsula Astronomical Society operates the Foothill College Observatory http://www.pastro.org/dnn/Observatory/FoothillObservatory.aspx. \nThe Observatory is staffed by members of the society who volunteer to conduct the regularly scheduled public programs.\nIn addition to operating the Foothill Observatory\, the PAS has its own observatory in the nearby Santa Cruz Mountains. This location has AC power and room for members to set up their own telescopes at our monthly star parties. This site is also the home of the society’s 12″ telescope\, available for member use after a checkout.”
