DESCRIPTION:Vintage Invasion \nthe fourth Friday of each month\, 8:00PM-Midnight \nThe Finnish Brotherhood Hall\, 1970 Chestnut Street\, Berkeley \n$7 \nhttp://www.vintagewaltz.com/Invasion.html \n  \n  \n“Vintage Invasion – where the old dances invade a new generation \nOur crowd is growing and thriving… a really positive atmosphere! \n  \nHave you ever waltzed to Metallica or danced a polka to Lady Gaga? Yes?  Then you know what a great time it is\, and we will see you there!  No?  Well it’s never too late to start.  Since we have hundreds of years of waltz music to choose from\, the variety makes a wonderful\, festive evening.  This is a casual\, neighborhood party: a chance to meet people\, bounce around\, and generally make merry.  We’ll have a potluck; you are welcome to bring snacks if you like.  Your hosts always bring the punch and water.  No alcohol\, please\, as we sometimes have dancers under 21 attending. \n  \nAll are welcome for the lesson\, so we can get you moving and ready to sail across the floor.  If you’re new to dancing we promise to be patient with you\, and if you have waltzed before we will improve your technique.  After class\, during the dance party\, we will still be available to help you with what we taught you\, and introduce you to some of our regulars.  They are well skilled\, but don’t be shy about asking them to dance with you too.  They’ll probably be happy for the chance to show off. 🙂 \n  \n  \n8:00-9:00PM = Lesson in Vintage Waltz – no partner or experience needed \n9:00PM-Midnight = Dance to Persephone and guest DJs playing lots of waltzes\, and a little bit of many other partner dances.”

Will Noble is focused on the intimate world of \nstreams\, cascades\, and sea. Mary Wagstaff is absorbed by the ocean’s surface as she finds it from her surfboard. And Nelson Hee has created a whole series \non the effects of water on moorings and tethers. \nEach artist’s work fills one gallery room at Falkirk\, making a powerful and fascinating exhibition. \n  \nFalkirk Cultural Center is a 19th century country estate listed on the National Historic Register. The Queen Anne Victorian\, designed by Clinton Day\, was built in 1888 by Ella Nichols Park\, and purchased by Captain Robert Dollar in 1906. Falkirk is named after Dollar’s birthplace in Scotland\, and his descendants occupied the house until 1970. The estate was saved from demolition in 1974. The Cultural Center is owned and operated by the City of San Rafael and has served the community for over 30 years.”

SUMMARY:The Stumpers Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:The Stumpers Book Launch \nwith Karima Cammell \nThursday\, November 20\, 5:30-7:30PM \nCastle in the Air\, 1805 Fourth Street\, Berkeley \nFree \nhttp://blog.castleintheair.biz/2014/11/we-grow-better-together-stumpers-book.html \nhttp://www.thestumpers.com \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZy1ncKAa4o \n  \n“It makes me so happy to share my latest creation with you – perhaps you can come to the party? \nThe Stumpers is my new children’s picture book about togetherness and the joy of working toward one’s dreams. It follows the life of a cozy family of gnome-like people and all the good things they enjoy as they live in harmony with their world. The the tale grew organically out of making the dolls and their forest home in my studio. \nMusic is an important part of my life\, and it’s part of the Stumpers’ world too\, so it was such a treat to include an original song in the e-book version of The Stumpers. The Stumpers’ Frolic is played by the talented Laura Cortese\, who also narrates the e-book. As an added treat\, Laura will be at the launch party\, where she and I will chat about creativity\, making art\, and working together on this project. \nThe Stumpers is my sixth book with Dromedary Press\, a publishing company I started with the goal of making beautiful books exactly the way I envisioned them. No one\, whether they’re an independent or one of the big houses\, knows what the future holds for book publishing\, but one thing that’s clear to me is that great things are possible when we work together. If you enjoy The Stumpers\, my wish is that you’ll spread the word by sharing it with your friends\, both in person and online. \nGnomevember starts a grand season of merrymaking. I hope you’ll join me to celebrate The Stumpers and its themes of togetherness\, joy\, song\, and dreams made real.
