SUMMARY:Stories and Songs For The Last Wild Buffalo
DESCRIPTION:Stories and Songs For The Last Wild Buffalo \nwith Mike Mease of Buffalo Field Campaign \nTuesday\, September 30\, 6:00AM-9:00PM \nThe Sunflower Center\, 1435 N. McDowell Boulevard\, Petaluma\, 707-792-5300 \nsliding scale $5-$10 \nhttp://lydiassunflowercenter.com/event/buffalo-field-campaign-stories-songs-last-wild-buffalo \nhttp://www.buffalofieldcampaign.org/index.html \nhttp://hempsteadprojectheart.com \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGHUROslWFI \n  \n“Buffalo Field Campaign in collaboration with HempStead Project HEART \n  \nIncludes Mike Mease co-founder\, presenter\, buffalo stories and films.  Live music with Goodshield and Mignon.  Booth/table with BFC merchandise\, newsletters\, stickers\, t-shirts\, DVDs\, CDs\, etc.  AND\, HempStead Project HEART with John Trudell and organizers with presentations\, music/spoken word\, film\, hemp merchandise\, books\, CDs\, etc. \n  \nThe Buffalo Field Campaign (BFC) is the only group working in the field\, everyday\, to stop the slaughter and harassment of Yellowstone’s wild buffalo. Volunteers from around the world defend buffalo on their traditional winter habitat and advocate for their protection. Our daily patrols stand with the buffalo on the ground they choose to be on\, and document every move made against them. \n  \nVolunteers spend all day\, from sunrise until sunset\, watching and documenting actions taken against the buffalo. We run patrols from cars\, skis and snowshoes to protect buffalo outside the park. Tactics range from video documentation to nonviolent civil disobedience. \n  \nBFC enjoys incredible support and participation from the local community. Residents allow us to post signs on their property designating them as Buffalo Safe Zones. We offer a fence repair service to mitigate damage caused by wildlife. Locals join us on our daily rounds\, and many support our patrols with hot drinks and food. \n  \nAll of our work happens because people are willing to take a break from their usual schedules and come help. Over 3000 people from all over the country and around the world have joined us in our log cabin on Hebgen Lake to help stop the buffalo slaughter. We feed and house all our volunteers in our cabin and Gardner satellite camp. Volunteers patrol for buffalo by skis\, snowshoes\, or cars. Everyone communicates by a network of hand-held radios\, and also carries a video camera. \n  \nOur office runs outreach programs\, including slide and video presentations\, summer tabling in Yellowstone Park\, website and e-mail updates\, and national media coverage through press releases and video.”

There are eight stages and performance areas.  Our main stage hosts many of the best Celtic musicians on the world stage. \n  \nAs late summer begins to cool\, the Nevada County Fairgrounds will be transformed into a Celtic village where world-famous Celtic musicians perform\, shopping and dining opportunities abound and O’Dea’s Irish Pub celebrates the change of season.  Hundreds of regional performers\, singers\, bagpipers\, actors\, jugglers and storytellers roam the fairgrounds. \n  \nMusicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in with jam sessions and workshops scheduled throughout the weekend.  Revelers make music into the night in the campgrounds complete with tall trees and a lake. \n  \nHistory buffs explore encampments of Guilds who re-create points and places in time. Royalty and their subjects demonstrate how peasants and gentry lived in Ireland\, Scotland and Wales. Exciting and educational\, the Celtic Animals exhibit houses falcons\, eagles\, hawks\, owls\, sheep and ponies. \n  \nAmateur and professional athletes test their strength and skill in Scottish Games. Children are kept engaged with arts and crafts\, story telling\, and romping in a straw bale castle. Seniors are admitted an hour before the event opens on Sunday and treated to scones and tea. The festival is disabled accessible.  Camping and RV hookups are available on-site.”

SUMMARY:Taboo and Heroes
DESCRIPTION:Taboo and Heroes \npresented by Kiandanda Dance \nSaturday\, September 27\, 8:00PM \nZaccho Dance Theatre\, 1777 Yosemite Avenue\, #330\, San Francisco \n$15 \nhttp://www.sfiaf.org/taboo_and_heroes \nhttp://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/809139 \nhttp://www.zaccho.org \n  \n“Taboo and Heroes explores the situation of the wars that struck the Republic of Congo in the late 1990s in a multimedia performance\, featuring modern and traditional dance\, interactive video design\, and live contemporary music. Taboo and Heroes addresses the reality and consequences of violence and corruption through the specific experiences of Byb Chanel Bibene. Bringing together dance and theater performers\, an original music score\, set design and video elements\, the piece aims to transport the audience into the charged atmosphere of conflict that permeated\, and still echoes in everyday life in the Republic of Congo. This piece transposes the Congolese environment on stage. \n  \nExploring the subject of victims of war and the lack of freedom of expression due to irresponsible dictatorial powers and the neo-colonial influences of western powers\, choreographer Bibene\, as a survivor of the Congolese war\, intends to demonstrate the essence of these dramatic situations of war\, which are lived by thousands of people throughout the world. This project is intended to lead people to pay more attention to what is going on in the world\, because a collective effort can help find solutions and lead to a better life not only in Africa but also in the rest of the world\, ecologically\, socially\, politically\, and humanly.\nFrom my questioning of the sources and implications of conflicts came the impetus to create a performance work that could inspire active consideration of current events\, in the belief that this is another step towards collective solutions to global problems. This work is intended to be a mobile\, internationally viable project that can widely communicate its political initiative through the explanatory power of its emotional and kinetic journeys. This project is furthermore a turning point in my career as choreographer: it is an extensive\, long-term undertaking\, employing new creative approaches in my choreography and socio-political purpose. The fruition of this project will allow Kiandanda Dance Theater to establish itself significantly in its new home in San Francisco.”

Vilified by all Christians for the last 2000 years for his betrayal of Jesus Christ to the Roman authorities for thirty pieces of silver. For that act and for his subsequent suicide\, he has allegedly been condemned to hell for all eternity. It is a story with which we are all familiar. Perhaps the time has come for a reprieve? Many others had their sins washed away by Jesus: many others were given the opportunity to start again. And are there not other figures that should bear their share of the blame? And where better a venue for such a case to be tried than in a courtroom delicately poised between heaven and hell: as the attorney for Judas’ defense states\, ‘This is Purgatory\, I’ve got all day.’”

SUMMARY:Year of the Rooster
DESCRIPTION:Year of the Rooster \nThursday-Sunday\, September 4-7\, \nThursday-Saturday 8:00PM\, Sunday 7:00PM \nplaying through October 12 \nImpact Theatre at La Val’s Subterranean\, 1834 Euclid Avenue\, Berkeley\, 510-224-5744 \n$20 in advance\, $25 at the door \nhttp://impacttheatre.com/season \nhttps://www.vendini.com/ticket-software.html?t=tix&e=4ea1097cd7a269d8efeb84710981bb3f \n  \n“Year of the Rooster · West Coast Premiere \nBy Eric Dufault · Directed by Logan Ellis \nWith Anthony Agresti\, Terry Bamberger\, Caleb Cabrera\, Jon Nagel\, and Sango Tajima \n  \nOdysseus Rex is having quite a year. Quite a part of a year\, anyway – Odie’s only eight months old. But even at his young age\, he’s mad as hell and wants to fight his way to the top. Did we mention Odie’s a rooster? Odie’s trainer\, fast-food cashier Gil\, has been raising Odie in a bid to return to the horrific world of cockfighting\, his only chance to win at something in life. To get there\, though\, Gil and Odie have to survive Dickie the cockfight promoter\, Gil’s mom\, and Philipa\, Gil’s young McDonald’s manager who’s got big dreams of her very own. A gut-busting yet poignant portrait of the price of ambition\, this is the must-see show of the fall.”

SUMMARY:pickPocket Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:pickPocket Ensemble \nSunday\, September 21\, 3:00-5:30PM \nAvanova\, 417 Avon Street\, Oakland \n$15\, please RSVP at the website below \nhttp://avonovamusic.com/pickpocket-ensemble \nhttp://pickpocketensemble.com \nhttps://www.facebook.com/pickpocketensemble \n  \n“Please join us on Sunday\, September 21\, when Avonova presents the pickPocket Ensemble.  The show starts at 3:00PM\, and the admission is set at $15.  Doors open at 2:15PM.  From the street corner to the concert hall\, the pickPocket ensemble creates a contemporary chamber cafe music that moves both body and soul. \n  \nBased in Northern California\, we have toured internationally and released 6 CDs of original music. Our music has been featured in several films and on NPR and public television. To listen to the pickPocket ensemble is to embark on a journey.  Speak to audience members after a performance: one will have been to Bogota\, one to Prague\, one to Paris. Yet for all its wide-ranging inspirations\, the music of the pickPocket ensemble remains intensely personal and immediately engaging\, an invitation to listen in on an intimate and ongoing conversation. The group consists of Rick Corrigan (accordion\, piano\, composition)\, Yates Brown (guitars\, banjo)\, Chloe Allen (violin)\, John Slattery (percussion) and Colin Williams (double bass).”
