SUMMARY:Maafa Commemoration Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Maafa Commemoration Ceremony \nSunday\, October 12\, 5:30AM (before dawn) \nOcean Beach\, Great Highway at Fulton Street\, San Francisco \nFree\, all black people are invited \nhttp://maafasfbayarea.com/?p=200 \nhttp://maafasfbayarea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/maafa-flyer-20141.jpg \n  \n“The term ‘Maafa’ is Kiswahili for ‘terrible occurrence’ or ‘recurring disaster’ and has been used to describe the European slave trade or the Middle Passage. The term ‘Maafa’ also references the Black Holocaust historically and currently. In the San Francisco Bay Area\, October is Maafa Awareness Month – it is a time to reflect on the legacy of slavery: victims and beneficiaries in the short and long term\, and look at ways to mend\, repair and heal the damage to Pan African descendants of the enslaved and their New Afrikan societies. The toll has been tremendous: psychological\, economic\, social\, physical\, emotional and spiritual. \n  \nThe Maafa ritual\, October 12\, 2014\, is an honoring of our past and a prayer for our future. All black people are invited to come and share in this time of remembrance. We ask for this one event\, those who support the well-being of black people respect our desires about the commemoration ceremony and mourning ritual. \n  \nAttendees are encouraged to wear white\, to dress warmly\, bring their children\, flowers for the ceremony\, vegan or vegetarian breakfast items to share afterwards\, (along with dishes to serve them on)\, hot beverages and cups\, drums\, chekeres\, rattles\, and positive energy. Firewood is useful for the bonfires Sunday morning. The organizers will not be responsible for security if attendees decide to spend the night.”

SUMMARY:Convocation of Isis 2014 - Anubis and Mafdet
DESCRIPTION:Convocation of Isis 2014 – Anubis and Mafdet \nFriday-Monday\, October 10-13 \nIsis Oasis Sanctuary\, 20889 Geyserville Avenue\, Geyserville\, 707-857-4747 \n$115 per day includes shared room\, all meals and special events \nsee website for registration and detailed schedule of events \nfor more information or to register\, please call 707-857-4747 or e-mail isis@isisoasis.org \nhttp://www.isisoasis.us/events \n  \n“We apologize for the late notice regarding Convocation 2014\, but we assure you it is happening\, and congruent with all of Lady Loreon’s wishes. This year’s theme is Anubis and Mafdet\, and in addition to all your usual and favorite events from years past\, we will have some wonderful additions to the final schedule. There will be a wonderful memorial for Lady Loreon on Sunday\, October 12\, which is open to the public and begins at 3:00PM\, with a reception to follow.  A final schedule will be posted as soon as we confirm all presentations and entertainment. \n  \nThere will be no charge to attend the Memorial Service itself for Lady Loreon or the reception directly following it. \n  \nPlease let us know if you have any food allergies\, special diets\, gluten-free\, vegan\, etc. \n  \nWe urge you to make your reservations now\, as this event will sell-out. A $50 deposit will hold your reservation. \n  \nThe Temple of Isis is a legally recognized church in California established in June of 1996. We honor the Goddess Isis\, who in modern terms equates with Mother Earth\, and has been worshipped longer than any other deity known on the planet. \n  \nIn honoring Isis we honor the earth\, recognizing the peril of this time\, given the amount of pollution\, destruction of endangered species and violence between countries and each other. We seek to establish harmony\, caring\, and love among all people by gently pointing the way to a more feminine perspective. We have no dogma\, but prefer what may humorously be called catma\, a kind of freedom and independence in thought stemming from the ancient wisdom of Egypt \n  \nWe generally follow the principles of the Fellowship of Isis\, out of which our temple was born. The FOI was established by Lady Olivia Robertson and her brother at Clonegal Castle\, Enniscorthy\, Ireland\, which has thousands of members in over 80 countries. Those who are members of the FOI are connected only by their love for the Goddess as each practices in whatever way they wish. The idea is to create balance by incorporating the feminine in deity. We all need the nurturing\, forgiveness\, and compassion that the Great Mother provides\, as we seek to integrate and strengthen both our lunar and solar qualities. Those who become Priestesses and Priests of Isis\, within this Temple\, pledge to honor all life and commit to help the earth and her people’s not only for her preservation but to bring to our lives and the lives of future generations more light and wisdom. \nIf you are interested in becoming part of the Temple of Isis\, we would welcome your email. We are hoping If you are interested in being part of the Temple of Isis\, we welcome your email\, or Friending us on Facebook. We are creating a spiritual community of like-minded people who wish to build a new world\, in peace\, balance\, and harmony \n  \nThe Temple of Isis is located at Isis Oasis Sanctuary\, on 10 beautiful acres in Geyserville\, California. The actual Temple is always open for private meditation time. The sanctuary has a pool\, spa\, sauna\, aviaries of birds and endangered cats which are bred here\, plus a sacred 500 year old fir tree. Isis Oasis serves also as a site for weddings and other sacred ceremonies.”

SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Fall Equinox and Laka\, Hawaiian Goddess of Hula and The Forest \nTuesday\, September 23\, 7:30PM \nConcord location\, directions given upon RSVP \n$15 newcomer discount\, $30 one time exchange \nThis ritual is for cisgendered women. \nPlease RSVP to 925-787-9247 or Leilani@DaughtersoftheGoddess.com \nhttp://www.daughtersofthegoddess.com \n  \n“She was born of a breath: an emanation\, rather than a human birth\, and She is the purest experience of inspiration. \nAltars to Laka grace the entrances of hula halaus in many reaches of the world! She is the Goddess of Hula\, and it is Her energy that moves the bodies of those who perform this Sacred Dance. Hula\, then\, is a partnership between the body that moves and the spirit of Laka that creates the movement. Laka both demands and ensures that we concentrate\, work hard\, and are diligent in whatever we endeavor to pursue. \nAs the Goddess of Hula\, Laka keeps the ancient stories of Indigenous Hawaiian ethnic heritage alive and sees to it that the history of the Hawaiian people is remembered and infused into the lives of future generations. She is Sacred Memory. \nLaka is also the Goddess of the forest and vegetation; all things lush and growing. She inspires life\, She increases fecundity\, and She teaches us about diligently listening for signs from Nature. When we embark to enter the forest\, it is She to whom we ask for permission. If we need plants from beneath Her trees\, it is She to whom we look for approval. As the Forest Goddess\, Laka is also closely associated with rainfall and the movement of air required for life. Many plants and flowers are Sacred to Her\, including the ohia lehua\, maile\, lama\, and ie ie\, which are traditionally used on Her altars and to make the leis which adorn Hula Dancers. \nThe Fall Equinox is the second of the three harvest Holydays in Nature’s calendar and the day when at the equator\, there are equal light and dark hours in a 24 hour period! How precious that we will prepare an altar for Laka during our Fall Rite! We give praise and thanks to Laka for this year’s precious harvest. \nAs we ready ourselves to feel the Spirit of Laka within us\, let us consider how we dance through each day of our lives\, how we have danced through the Wheel of the Year\, and what we will be harvesting from our hard work. How do you honor this energy that flows through you? In what ways do you reciprocate? How diligently do you listen to Her wishes and value them above all else? \nFor the altar\, please bring an offering of greenery\, a small potted plant\, some flowers\, or a fruit that you think She would like. In addition\, please bring a yellow candle and wear yellow\, which is a color that traditionally represents Laka on altars built for Her. \nWe look forward to celebrating Fall Equinox\, under the New Moon\, at the altar of Laka with each of you! \n  \nIf you are interested in participating in a ritual or celebration\, please help out by doing the following: \nPlease bring a snack to share (if possible\, food of the culture we are celebrating)\, washable eating utensils (bowl\, cup\, plate\, utensils\, etc. In honor of Mother Earth\, we do not provide disposable items)\, a candle (for safety reasons\, we highly recommend a candle in a glass container\, often called a novena)\, and pillow or chair to sit on to all rituals. For more information about our rituals please visit our FAQ page. \nPlease see our current series schedule and check the web page for the specific ritual to see what items to bring and how to prepare yourself. Please take the time to read this\, especially if you are a newcomer. New information is added from time to time so even if you feel you have already seen this\, it is important to check back in every now and then.”

Devotionals vary from month to month\, are dedicated to deities from a variety of traditions\, and are led by Solar Cross clergy and guests. \n  \nHeld every third Sunday of the month in Berkeley\, CA\, Solar Cross offers these free devotionals as an opportunity to connect with divinity and community. Participants typically gather at 10:00 am for a 10:30 am start\, and follow a simple ritual format (see below). Meetings are held outdoors (weather permitting) in a tranquil garden setting and conclude at noon. \n  \nOfferings of bread\, fruit or flowers for the altar are appreciated\, but there is no potluck. Children under 18 with legal guardian are welcome. There is no charge to attend\, although donations to Solar Cross are gratefully accepted.
