“Following sold-out performances at the Ashby Stage in Berkeley, acclaimed actor and author Johnny Mercer brings his memoir series, Swearing In English, to the Altarena Playhouse for two nights only.  Proving once and for all that truth is stranger than fiction, Mercer’s tales range from a meeting with Elvis and herring fishing in Scotland to childhood pets, baseball, magic carpets, and perfect moments.

December 12 features a set of those stories, passionate, ridiculous, and rich in meaning.

December 13 is reserved for a performance of Musings Of The Unregretful, Johnny’s evocative tale of a youth spent among the wildlings of northern England in the ’70s.

Long before they were written down, these stories were told and re-told many times: to family, friends, strangers, anyone with an ear for a story who was willing to listen. Some are old, some new, several located back in England and Scotland, others close to home here in the Bay Area; they share one thing in common – they are all true. Events, people, actions taken, words spoken have been faithfully reproduced no matter how tall the tale.

Don’t miss this very special event. Johnny will be signing copies of his book of short stories, from which these evenings are drawn, after each show.
